Every day I try to take an hour or two and spend some time alone walking the beach in Cardiff. Last week on a late night walk, I noticed they had just finished engraving the beautiful poem from the late Bob Nanniga. The words were written on the surf sculpture sometimes known as the Cardiff Kook.
This sculpture has become a local icon often dressed in wacky holiday attire, and now represents a familiar word from a community friend. I love how the moon shined down to welcome in the beautiful moment...
Here is the inspirational poem
Grommit of bronzeOn an ocean of stone
Frozen in time
In Cardiff, at home
Action in art
Still life by the sea
Community pride
Goofy footed and free
Exuberant youth
Arms open and wide
A cultural ambassador
Takes his first ride
His story is our story
Personified Grace
Both the past and the future
See yourself in his face
Grommit of bronze
On an ocean of stone
Surfs by the sea
In Cardiff, at home.
Thanks Bob, for being such an example of love and light in our community.
